For critique, Apple Music has been chosen. I’ve been using the apps on various platforms for a long time. Therefore I know the persisting problems, minor annoyances, its development record and the things they do better than the competition (in my humble opinion of course). I’ve never had a chance to critique it methodologically. I have an idea where something is off but cannot really name it so far.
The service was started in 2015 (2016 in Turkey), firstly as an evolution from the iTunes platform. Its traces was more clearly seen in the desktop version. There are three version in total; desktop, iOS and iPadOS, (there is also an Apple TV app but I am not familiar with it at all and currently do not have the means to access that app).
This app(s) is chosen because I am fascinated by the sheer number of updates it got, changing the UI and interaction design dramatically for several times and still not nailing some functionality, sometimes even making the things worse. Yet at the same time there are a lot to like about the apps as well, that creates a weird kind of dichotomy, it somehow achieves user delight for me so I still use the service. Those are the areas I want to unveil so I can understand why I’m still using it everyday despite its obvious problems.
Although there are a lot of writing about Apple Music, I preferred to limit the literature with very recent articles, because Apple Music is a frequently updated app, it makes no sense to include older articles considering the scope of the assignment.
